Tai chi and I Ching (yijing) are two important disciplines deeply rooted in ancient Chinese philosophy. While Tai chi embodies the balance of yin and yang through physical movements and the flow of energy (Qi), I Ching aims to understand the laws of change and transformation in the universe through hexagonal symbols. These two teachings are united in the principles of balance, harmony and constant change.

The I Ching is one of the oldest Chinese texts that explains the cyclical nature of the universe. Its 64 hexagons represent the dynamic interactions between yin and yang. Each hexagon shows the potential transformation of a situation and how opposites intertwine. Tai chi offers a practice that expresses this philosophy through physical movement. The transitions between yin and yang are experienced physically through slow and deliberate movements.

Every movement in tai chi focuses on maintaining balance and flow. For example, "Sensual Hands Practice - Push Hands" is an exercise in which two people explore yin-yang interactions. In this practice, the push (yang) of one side is countered by the surrender (yin) of the other side, and the energy returns in a controlled manner. This directly reflects the I Ching principles of change and opposition.

Tai chi also aims to optimize the flow of qi (life energy). The movements regulate the flow of energy and when balanced, encourage the qi to flow freely. This supports both physical and spiritual health. Like the hexagons of the I Ching, tai chi teaches us to adapt to the constant transformation of life.

In conclusion, tai chi is not just a martial art; it is a way to experience the philosophical teachings of the I Ching on a physical level. It guides individuals to adapt to the changes of life by developing both mental and physical awareness. Tai chi brings the wisdom of the I Ching to life through movement and invites individuals to a deep understanding on the path of balance, harmony and transformation.
